Preparing for the Looe Boxing Day Swim

The Looe Boxing Day Swim is one of Cornwall's most loved winter traditions. Hundreds of hardy swimmers in fancy dress take to the sea at East Looe beach, raising money for local charities. If you're staying with us over Christmas, it's a brilliant way to burn off the turkey.

When and where

What to bring

• A swimming costume and a sense of humour
• Fancy dress (optional but encouraged)
• A warm towel and layers for afterwards
• Neoprene boots or gloves if you feel the cold

The water is cold but the atmosphere is warm. Even if you'd rather watch from the harbour with a hot drink, it's a fantastic morning out.
